These days the word ‘feminism’ is considered abhorrent by a large population due to the false belief that feminism is trying to establish a female hegemony. Yes, feminists advocate for women’s rights however the society’s general perception of women as the weaker gender necessitates doing so. Feminism believes in equality and equity; feminism believes in providing this equality to those who were historically denied even the bare minimum rights that every human is entitled to. We can easily see the wrong perception of a feminist forced by male chauvinists into the minds of people since whenever the term feminism is mentioned , the image formed in a large number of people is that of a smoking, uncultured woman who is ‘tainted’ by the notion that she is equal to a man.

This misconception has led to disregard of the struggle for equality and the creation of a new word, ‘Feminazi’. Feminazi, a new curse-word to tweet or comment whenever a woman associates herself with the feminist movement. Those who silenced the voice of female years ago and reduced her whole purpose of life to being a ‘good wife’ left their mark on thoughts of the people who constitute the society today and this mark is dark enough for people to unsee the struggles and sufferings of women. The promotion of toxic masculinity and suppressing a movement which has the intention to serve the long-denied taste of equality does not only adversely affect women but men too, therefore it is important to spread awareness to everybody. People need to know and understand what feminism is, what it stands for before they hear its propagandist version.
